Cleaning grease traps
Cleaning grease traps is essential for proper operation and compliance with environmental regulations. These devices are mainly found in restaurants, catering establishments and food processing plants, where wastewater can contain significant amounts of grease and oil.
The steps of the cleaning process are as follows:
Before starting work, ensure that the equipment is not in use and prepare the necessary protective equipment (rubber gloves, mask, protective clothing) and tools (bucket, scraper).
The grease trap cover must be removed carefully, taking care not to damage the seal.

After removing the lid, you must first remove the layer of grease and oil floating on the surface, and then pump out or drain out the water underneath.
Then, any solids that have collected at the bottom of the equipment must also be removed.
The internal surfaces, partitions and cover should be cleaned thoroughly mechanically, using a scraper or brush. Avoid using hot water or chemicals as these can dissolve the grease and cause it to enter the sewer system.
Finally, check the components of the equipment (such as seals, baffles) and carefully refit and secure them. After cleaning, it is a good idea to fill the grease trap with clean water to reduce unpleasant odors and ensure optimal operation.
It is advisable to clean grease traps at least once a month, but more often if used intensively. Regular maintenance helps prevent blockages, unpleasant odors and contributes to protecting the environment.
Cleaning oil traps
Regular cleaning and maintenance of oil catchment systems is crucial to comply with environmental regulations and ensure efficient operation. These systems are located in locations where there is a risk of water contaminated with mineral oil or grease entering the environment, such as gas stations, car washes and industrial facilities.
The cleaning process consists of several steps:
First, the equipment must be safely stopped, and then the accumulated oily-sludge contamination must be removed using special suction equipment.
The internal surfaces of the equipment must then be thoroughly rinsed with a high-pressure washer to remove all residual contaminants.

Hazardous waste generated during cleaning must be transported and disposed of by a licensed company in accordance with applicable laws.
After cleaning, it is advisable to check the condition of the equipment and, if necessary, carry out maintenance work, such as replacing seals or repairing damaged elements.
Regular maintenance is important not only to comply with environmental regulations, but also to prevent equipment efficiency from decreasing and potential malfunctions. Depending on the nature of the facility, it is generally recommended to perform this process at least once a year, but in case of intensive use, even every 3–6 months.
